Justin Colantonio Managing Partner
Justin Colantonio is the Managing Partner of Total Technology Resources and one of the founding members of the firm. Born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, he came of age right as the Internet was starting to take off. Even as a youth, he always had an interest in technology, so much so that he won an award for technology in grammar school. He continued his IT education at LaSalle University, graduating with dual degrees in Accounting and Management Information Systems.
After college, he tried accounting as a career but quickly realized that this was not going to be his long-term plan. He then delved into IT. He took a position as an adjunct professor at CHI Institute teaching server management courses. During that same time, he was hired by the City of Philadelphia as a consultant to help implement a new 911 system. Justin spent 2 years there helping the internal IT team complete a large-scale project, seeing it through until installation.
Once the consulting engagement was over in 2004, he had an interest in starting a business. He discussed this venture with a longtime friend and Total Technology Resources was born. Over the past 20 years, Justin and his business Partner Jim have grown their firm into a thriving Managed Service Provider. There are currently 26 people at TTR, where he is now responsible for the company’s vision and direction. He oversees his Executive Management team and is constantly fine tuning their cybersecurity program as this area changes so fast.
In 2022 he assisted in writing a book on cybersecurity (Managing Your Business Risk in the Cybersecurity Minefield) along with a bunch of industries experts and has presented to numerous schools and organizations on cybersecurity.
He is married living in South Jersey, with his wife Kate and 2 young children. He enjoys cooking, running, golfing, and coaching his son's baseball team. He is very active in his community and serves on multiple nonprofit boards.
James Smith Managing Partner
James Smith is a founding partner of Total Technology Resources. Born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, Jim excelled in sports as a child, particularly swimming and track. He attended Saint Joseph's University on a track and field scholarship, studying Management Information Systems and Business. During his college years, he was part of the Atlantic 10 record-setting 4 x 800 relay team.
After graduation, James worked in corporate IT for Fortune 500 firms before teaming up with Justin in 2004 to launch Total Technology Resources. Jim currently leads our cybersecurity division and oversees the cabling/infrastructure team. He collaborates with clients to develop and maintain their technical security policies and IT procedures, including testing incident response programs and disaster recovery scenarios. Jim is also pursuing certification to terminate and certify fiber up to 100 gig in all 50 states.
When he's not working, Jim enjoys coaching his son's baseball team in South Jersey, where he lives with his wife, Kylie, and their three young children.
